Chippewa Falls robotics team showcases season, student awards and engineering work

Students and coaches from Team 5826 (Ava Automata) presented the robotics program’s season accomplishments and demonstrated technical elements of the competition robot.
The team said roughly 27 high‑school students participated this season, in addition to a middle‑school "Robot School" program; combined, coaches expect the program to serve about 40 students next year. The coaches noted extracurricular success in SkillsUSA regional and national competitions and a regional third place in welding at a related event.
Brett Schaefer, the mechanical and design lead, described the robot’s intake, arm, vision system (approximately six cameras), about 15–16 motors and multiple sensors, and explained rapid iteration between competitions that involved nearly rebuilding subsystems in a matter of weeks.
Megan, the team driver, said the season was one of the best she experienced and emphasized the team’s ‘‘gracious professionalism’’ award for sportsmanship. A lighthearted board motion to recognize long‑time mentor Dr. Walter (25 years in robotics) passed by acclamation.
Board members thanked the team and wished students success in upcoming endeavors; no board action was required beyond the informal recognition.
