Resident urges West Allis to extend municipal garbage pickup to four-unit buildings

During the public participation portion of the April 14 meeting, Brad Bradley, who gave his address as 2568 South 90th Street, West Allis, urged the council to extend municipal commercial-style garbage collection to four-family buildings.
"The municipality extending commercial style service pick up to four family units is often the threshold between the strategic and operational benefits," Bradley said. He described problems with privately managed dumpsters at small multifamily properties—poor maintenance, holes in containers and illegal dumping—and said municipal pickup would improve recycling compliance and reduce the risk of code citations.
Bradley singled out his own experience with a deteriorating dumpster and with a private hauler he named, saying it was difficult to get the container maintained. He said curbside containers would free parking spaces now lost to dumpsters and could stabilize billing so rents are more predictable. He offered the council a handout with photos comparing alleys with dumpsters to alleys with curbside containers.
The council did not take action on Bradley's request during public comment; staff or a council committee would need to place any operational or code-change proposal on a future agenda for formal consideration.
