Finance director Angie Bland outlined the supplemental appropriation request to the board of supervisors: the district carried forward roughly $2.3 million in operating-related balances, driven largely by state revenue receipts tied to bonuses. Bland told trustees $1.5 million of the request would be placed in the 2025–26 operating budget to cover recent bonuses, and about $818,874 would move into the health-care reserve, bringing that reserve closer to $3 million.
The board approved a separate set of letters asking the board of supervisors to reappropriate open purchase orders from FY2024–25 into FY2025–26. Those votes included large ongoing capital projects — the Christiansburg High School renovation was the largest item — and an outstanding fuel‑tank project. One trustee voted against the capital reappropriation motion, saying she did not have sufficient information about the fuel‑tank purchase order.
On labor, the board voted to approve the collective bargaining agreement for support professionals after a short discussion about whether the contract had been reviewed as a first or second reading; the motion carried 4–2.
What happens next: The board will send the approved letters and supplemental appropriation requests to the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, and administration will implement the CBA after necessary administrative steps.
