Preston County plans short‑term repairs to Kingwood Elementary gym after engineering assessment

Superintendent Martin summarized a June 4 assessment by Arrow/Arero (report provided to the board) that recommended cutting out damaged sections, applying a hydraulic‑style patch product (transcript references products such as 'Sika' and 'Makco' variants), and then painting and sealing patched areas. The district and architects plan to perform these repairs before students return in August to limit further water damage.
A preconstruction meeting with contractor Veraritoss, Thrasher representatives and district staff was held July 1. Representatives from the State Fire Marshal’s office conducted a walk‑through and raised no objections to the proposed start. Superintendent Martin said the contractor will follow district procedures including background checks and photo IDs for personnel on site; the district agreed a temporary entry and storage plan (dumpsters, restrooms, parking) has been set.
The board was told the structural assessment did not identify an overall integrity failure but recommended monitoring and contingency plans if further problems arise. The district will forward documentation to the SBA and expects work to begin later this month.
