The Crookston City Council on Monday approved a $5,300 donation from Finn and Fit to help keep the Crookston Pool operating.
The money was described by city staff as splitting $3,300 for boiler repairs and $2,000 for a floating volleyball net. “These funds were raised by a youth group through food stands throughout the city,” city staff member Darren said during the agenda item presentation. Council moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by roll call.
Several families who organized lemonade stands at 14 locations across the city addressed the council. “My name is Lucy and I helped raise money for the Crookston pool,” the child told council members, and her mother, Maryanne Issac, described organizing families and said the project reflected “how much the young families of the city of Crookston value our pool.” Another resident added that the donation will help keep the pool running in the short term and urged council to prioritize long-term planning for facility needs.
Council members who spoke during roll call expressed thanks to the volunteers and the donor. The motion to accept the donation was moved by Don, seconded by Clayton, and recorded as carried by roll call.
The resolution accepts the gift for immediate repairs and equipment; no additional conditions or funding changes were announced at the meeting.
