The Wyoming City Council voted May 6 to adopt an electronic sign policy for a new city sign installed near Railroad Park. The sign was purchased with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and a contribution from the city’s Economic Development Authority, staff said.
Under the adopted policy, priority will be given to government notices (public meetings), city and public-safety content, school information for Wyoming Elementary and community nonprofit events occurring within the city. Staff will review all submissions and will have authority to schedule, prioritize or revise messages. Messages from outside entities will be displayed for no more than seven days and no more than one message per outside entity may be displayed per month; city messages may be displayed indefinitely.
The policy explicitly bars religious content, political campaign messaging, personal messages and commercial advertising. Staff said they will provide a single contact point (a city email) for submissions and will post guidance on how residents can request a message.
Council members expressed enthusiasm for the sign as a new communication tool and asked when it would be turned on; staff said electricians were scheduled to inspect hookups and the city would announce when the sign became active.
