Board chair Mr. Owen opened the meeting and placed the history club’s November trip proposal on the curriculum agenda after student officers presented details on timing, cost and itinerary. The students said the three-day trip (Nov. 9–11) would cost $575 per participant, include motor coach transportation, hotel accommodations at the Hampton Inn, museum admissions and two meals, and make 50–52 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. The presenters outlined a payment schedule (a $75 deposit by Sept. 22, $250 by Oct. 3 and $250 by Nov. 3) and said lunches would not be included in the package.
“Pittsburgh is one of my favorite cities. It's super safe, super clean,” one student presenter said, describing the educational value of the Carnegie Museum and campus visits. The board voted to approve the curriculum items, which included the history club trip and a related cultural exchange request, after administrators described a parent information session and a selection timeline for elementary applicants.
In consent business, the board approved personnel items covering support contracts, additions, one professional resignation, an Act 93 bargaining item, a position elimination and athletic volunteers. The board recorded unanimous affirmative votes from the members present.
The board also approved contracts with five bus contractors to lock in transportation services for district students. Administrators said mileage reimbursement rates and average daily ridership calculations will be finalized later; they also noted that contractors’ charge-card gas usage would be deducted from contractor payments if used. That motion also passed unanimously.
The meeting closed with routine communications and scheduling: the board recognized Megan Collins in the audience, noted plans to publish a student vignette about a recognized senior, and set its next meeting for Oct. 14.
