The Hopewell Area School Board voted Nov. 18 to approve two senior hires: Dr. Mara Hobson as superintendent of schools and Dr. Carrie Potter Murray as director of special education.
The board approved Dr. Hobson's employment at an annual salary of $171,000, with the contract effective Dec. 1, 2025 through Nov. 30, 2030. The motion passed by roll-call vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
The board likewise approved Dr. Carrie Potter Murray as director of special education at a salary of $100,000 effective Nov. 13, 2025. Dr. Potter Murray was introduced to the board and offered brief remarks of thanks during the meeting.
Board members and administrators welcomed both appointees. During the meeting a board member thanked Dr. Belts and others for their service and offered well-wishes to the incoming superintendent. Outgoing superintendent Dr. Belts also addressed the board and reflected on his tenure, thanking staff, families and students.
Both personnel votes were recorded by roll call in public session. The approved contracts take effect on the dates announced at the meeting; the board did not attach additional conditions or contingencies in the motions that passed.
