Hopewell Area SD principals report graduation, test and extracurricular highlights

Rob Cartichek, Hope High School principal, told the board that 135 of 135 students graduated for the year referenced and that AP participation rose with 24 of 36 test‑takers scoring at least a 3. Cartichek also reported that 32 of 36 career and technical center (CTC) students — 89% — passed the NOKI end‑of‑course exam and that 23 of those 36 (64%) earned an advanced score. "So, we're really proud of our graduates there," Cartichek said.
Cartichek described a 13‑day educational trip to Italy in June for 26 Hope High School students led by Mrs. Cedro and Mr. Peranic. He also noted a new Link Crew mentoring program in which 30 upperclass students assisted with ninth‑grade orientation and transition.
At the junior high, Chickelli, assistant principal, offered brief September highlights. Elementary assistant principal James Cassell reported that three elementary open houses on Sept. 11 were well attended, Margaret Ross Elementary celebrated a PTA School of Excellence recognition with community events, and several classroom projects are underway — for example, fifth‑grade students designing model homes to withstand earthquakes and storms. Cassell also noted a Pizza Masters reading incentive program tied to monthly reading minutes.
District dates announced in the superintendent's report included a junior high open house later this week and the homecoming parade scheduled for Oct. 16; the superintendent asked community groups to sign up via the district website.
The board was informed that the district's seventh‑ and eighth‑grade honors science fair preparation is underway and that the science fair is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.
Next steps: the board acknowledged the reports and the district will continue program rollouts and community event coordination; the board's information items did not require additional action at the meeting.
