Parents praise two district schools' National PTA School of Excellence honors and ask board to reinstate elementary clubs, improve communication

"On August 5th, the National PTA announced 330 schools in the United States that had earned the school of excellence award for the 2024 2026 designation period. Margaret Ross Elementary was one of the 330 schools," said Crystal Bour, who identified herself as speaking for the PTA community and provided a written copy of her remarks to the board.
Bour said Independence Elementary had earlier earned the same designation and urged the board to "please reconsider clubs at the elementary school level" so students can access enrichment opportunities. She also said the district should more actively communicate awards and the status of multi-month projects such as the district consolidation plan, which she said left the public without information for more than nine months.
Board members thanked the parent for the information. The board did not record a formal action or timeline in the meeting minutes to change club policy; Bour asked the board to work with administrators and parent organizations to outline communication gaps and training for parents.
The public comment also named several PTA leaders and school staff to recognize their contributions; the transcript includes those names and thanks from the board.
