Board approves Measure C GMP for Los Osos Middle and design‑build turf projects for two high schools

The San Luis Coastal Unified board approved several Measure C construction actions on June 17, including a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for Los Osos Middle School Phase 1B modernization and a design‑build RFQP award for artificial turf stadium projects at Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo high schools.

Facilities staff said the Los Osos scope includes a renovated front office and entry, new electrical systems, roofing, HVAC upgrades, ADA improvements and fencing; the GMP arrived slightly above the original budget and trustees discussed contingency management and schedule concerns. The board approved the GMP and authorized staff to proceed.

Trustees also approved a design‑build award (RFQP 331) for two artificial turf stadium fields. Staff said the selected respondent offered a contractor fee of about 7.5% and noted architect design fees (disclosed in the packet) with estimated project budgets of roughly $2 million for San Luis Obispo High and $3–3.5 million for Morro Bay High (Morro Bay includes bleachers and lighting). Board members asked about product longevity, salt‑water corrosion concerns at Morro Bay, and options for fill materials; staff will host a vendor presentation on July 17 to review turf product samples, fill types and warranties.

Construction schedules will be coordinated to minimize impact on athletics and graduation; staff estimated 3–4 months for field installation and longer (6–7 months) for bleachers and lighting work depending on DSA requirements.
