San Luis Coastal Unified board adopts five‑year strategic direction and annual priorities

The San Luis Coastal Unified School District board unanimously adopted a five‑year strategic direction on June 17, outlining five priority areas — academic excellence, student wellness, meaningful family partnerships, talent development and operational effectiveness — and approved a complementary set of annual priorities for 2025–26.

Educational Services director Mrs. Yamashida said the strategic document was developed through multiple stakeholder teams, site input, cabinet review and community workshops and is intended to remain a living document that will be revisited annually. "This document is not perfect and we will need to...revisit it and update it every year," she told trustees.

Superintendent Dr. Prader said the annual priorities operationalize the strategic direction with metrics tied to LCAP goals, focusing on academic achievement, closing the achievement gap for socioeconomically disadvantaged students (noted as more than 40% of district enrollment), a culture of care for student well‑being, talent development and fiscal responsibility. Trustees emphasized alignment between the strategic direction and existing plans, and authorized staff to begin operational planning immediately.

The board voted to adopt the strategic direction and annual priorities; staff will begin a planning session to translate goals into measurable action steps and return with quarterly progress reports.
