Commissioner Kelly announced at the meeting that she and her family are moving out of El Segundo and that she will need to resign her commission seat. "We are in the process of leaving El Segundo, which means I have to resign from this post," she said, describing the move to Playa del Rey after 28 years living in the city.
Fellow commissioners praised Kelly’s service, highlighting her support for staff, committee work and community involvement. Commissioners and staff offered personal remarks and thanked her for years of volunteer and civic service.
Kelly said she remains proud of department accomplishments she helped support, including progress on the Plunge opening and automation of recreation card renewals; she indicated she will remain involved locally as a resident in the broader area and would welcome continued contact with city staff.
No formal resignation paperwork was completed at the meeting; commissioners said they will follow the city’s established process for filling the vacancy and noted plans to acknowledge Kelly at an upcoming event.
