Following discussion of state requirements under Act 35, the board approved a course change to ensure all students meet now-mandatory financial literacy standards. Board member Mr. White and teacher Mr. Licky said the district already offers financial management and related business coursework; the plan renames or formally adopts the existing curriculum for 10th graders and provides an AP business/financial literacy option for upper grades.
"We've taught a financial management class in the high school for the last 15 to 20 years," Mr. Licky said, and after reviewing the state's standards he found that the district met most criteria and needed only modest additions for full compliance. Administrators said the shift would move the required cohort to 10th grade without adding staff or changing overall scheduling and that the change carried no new cost to the district.
The board approved the course change as part of curriculum approvals for the coming year.
