Albert Lea council finalizes $950,000 purchase of new fire engine

The Albert Lea City Council on Nov. 10 approved the final purchase and outfitting of a replacement fire engine, completing a contract for a Pierce Enforcer HDR apparatus with an anticipated delivery date in January 2026.
City staff told the council the total budget for the apparatus and necessary equipment will remain at or under $950,000, with the apparatus priced at $860,880.88 and additional outfitting costs estimated at $89,119.92.
City manager staff recommended approval to move the vehicle into the manufacturer's build cycle. Councilor Baker moved the resolution and Councilor Anderson seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
The purchase replaces two older fire engines from 1999 and the outgoing apparatus will be sold through Bundy Mountain, a fire apparatus sales company, as part of the procurement and disposition process.
The council did not add conditions to the purchase during the vote; staff will oversee final contracting and equipment purchases as the engine progresses through the build cycle.
