Staff told the commission the applicant proposes to subdivide 1.26 acres to create a public right-of-way called Sevilia Avenue, a minor arterial that will connect to Joe Battle Boulevard. Staff recommended approval of the plat and an exception to El Paso City Code Title 19 to reduce the required sidewalk width from 6 feet to 5 feet so the project matches existing conditions.
When asked about the sidewalk width, staff said the existing sidewalk measures 5 feet and the street design manual normally requires 6 feet; the exception request would allow a 5-foot sidewalk to align with current conditions. Adrian Ontiveros of CSA Design Group said the applicant "concur[s] with staff comments" and was available to answer questions.
A commissioner moved to approve the proposal and grant the exception; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote.
The commission's action forwards the commission's recommendation to city council for final action, and the staff report remains the controlling guidance for conditions applied to the plat.
