Perry to terminate ACCUJET agreement and seek new sewer cleaning contractor

Council approved a resolution terminating the city's professional services agreement with ACCUJET after staff said the company ceased operations. City staff told the council that ACCUJET had performed televising, cured‑in‑place pipe work and other sewer maintenance tasks for the city and that the city has used local contractors on an emergency basis since ACCUJET stopped operating.

Council then authorized staff to solicit requests for qualifications (RFQ) for a sewer-cleaning and inspection contractor to replace ACCUJET. City staff said the RFQ will be posted (including on the Iowa League of Cities site), internal scoring will occur after responses are received, and staff expects to return a recommended selection for council approval at the Aug. 18 council meeting. Staff also said they will send targeted letters to companies that perform the type of work ACCUJET had handled.

Separately, staff discussed an inspection program for grease traps: letters were sent to local businesses advising the city would begin inspections the week of Aug. 3 and that city crews will help keep grease out of the sewer system. City staff said some private contractors such as DJ Services already provided assistance during recent heavy rains.

Next steps and procurement

Council approved the RFQ authorization and termination of ACCUJET's agreement. Staff will post the RFQ, collect proposals, evaluate submissions, and present a recommended contract award to the council at a future meeting for formal approval.
