Board votes to return Bellwood Elementary to traditional calendar for 2026–27

The Chesterfield County School Board voted Sept. 9 to return Bellwood Elementary School to a traditional school calendar for the 2026–27 school year.
Dr. Booth presented the research and evaluation team’s recommendation, noting the year-round model had shown limited student progress over the past two years and that faculty at a year-round school missed professional-development weeks available to traditional-calendar staff. Board members discussed these findings during the work session and approved memo 127-25 by roll call at the business meeting.
During discussion a board member reiterated highlights from the earlier work session and emphasized that, while the district had studied the model for two years, the data and staffing considerations supported returning Bellwood to the traditional calendar. Staff will proceed with scheduling and notifications associated with the calendar change.
