School board certifies closed session and upholds superintendent recommendations on student and personnel cases

The Chesterfield County School Board on Sept. 9 adopted a certification that only matters lawfully exempt under Virginia law were discussed in a recently concluded closed session, then proceeded to vote to uphold the superintendent’s recommendations on a series of student- and personnel-related cases.

The clerk read the certification language verifying that the closed meeting addressed only matters exempt from open-meeting requirements under Virginia law; the board moved to adopt the resolution and approved it by roll call. Following that vote, board members considered a sequence of student-case items (listed in the meeting materials as 2025-26/RE14 through RE23) and multiple personnel cases (2025-26/17-HR through 2025-26/22-HR). For each item the recommendation presented by the superintendent was moved, seconded and approved by recorded roll calls.

During the roll calls the clerk announced each member’s vote; the transcript records the votes as “I” on each motion from Dominique Chatters, Steven Bronto, Lisa Hudgins and Coker. The board’s actions were procedural approvals of staff recommendations; the motions, as recorded, upheld the superintendent’s determinations in the cited case files.
