CCPS reports first-year rollout of new math pathways; summer bridge offered for acceleration

She described curricular supports produced by elementary and middle school curriculum specialists, digital tools piloted in classrooms (Math Space), and instructional resources developed to align with Virginia’s updated math standards.
To help students accelerate without missing prerequisite content, the division offers a required summer bridge course for students currently in math 7 who want to enter Algebra 1 in eighth grade. The bridge is available in three formats: in‑person, synchronous virtual, and an asynchronous Canvas option, and staff emphasized that families and school counselors are working to communicate options and guidance.
Dr. Sains shared initial enrollment patterns and projected growth for 2025–26 in newly adopted middle‑school courses and said about 96% of teachers surveyed report using the new CCPS middle school math resources on a monthly, weekly or daily basis. Staff will deploy Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts in elementary next year and continue to refine supports based on teacher and family feedback.
Board members asked how the division will notify families of the transition from DreamBox to Imagine Math and how families choose between Math 8 and Algebra 1; Sains said principals, counselors and published guidance documents will help families weigh options and make decisions for their students' eighth‑grade year.
No board votes were taken; staff said they will continue communication and provide guidance materials for families.
