Madison County clerk urges residents to file survey maps with county office

Madison County Clerk Mike Cagle encouraged residents to file their survey maps with the Madison County Clerk’s office in a brief recorded message, saying the office will digitize and retain maps so copies can be provided on request. “You can file any survey map here at the Madison County Clerk's office. We will digitize it and keep it on file for you so that if you ever need a copy, you can come in and request a copy and we can print it for you,” Cagle said.

Cagle said filing a basic survey — for example, one that documents existing boundary lines — is permitted at any time, but he cautioned that maps that change property lines require additional local review. He advised residents planning to file maps that alter boundaries to “check with your local codes officer or local planning board to make sure that you're following local government's rules prior to coming to the county to file those maps.”

The clerk reiterated that the filing and digitization service is intended to make copies accessible to property owners who later need them. He encouraged listeners to share the information with neighbors so county residents are aware of the service. The message closed with Cagle saying, “Have a great day and God bless you.”
