Roswell council adopts dredging assistance policy to guide stormwater dredging help

The Roswell City Council on May 11 adopted a text amendment creating a Roswell dredging assistance policy intended to standardize how the city will assist neighborhoods with stormwater dredging projects.
Brian Watson, director of Environmental Public Works, told the council the policy clarifies the process and helps staff budget correctly for future dredging assistance requests. Watson and council members noted the issue concerns stormwater management, not drinking water; a public commenter asked whether Fulton County could be asked to contribute given county water service in parts of the city.
Watson said staff had not yet identified specific sites or zoning because the first step is to see which projects meet program criteria and to secure funding. Council members asked staff to treat the first year of the policy as a test period and return with lessons learned.
Council approved the ordinance on second reading by a unanimous vote.
