Pasco county attorney announces retirement; staff reports small PFAS settlement

The Pasco County attorney told the board he will retire effective Aug. 1 and recommended an internal succession plan.
In his remarks the county attorney said he has provided a 90-day notice and proposed the board appoint his chief assistant, David Goldstein, to the county attorney role upon his departure. Commissioners expressed broad support for an internal appointment and thanked him for 17 years of service.
Separately, staff informed the board of an initial settlement from multi-district PFAS litigation expected to yield roughly $150,000 for local water system claims. The county attorney said the amount is modest but that additional settlements may follow and that a separate claim related to a fire facility remains outside the current settlement group.
What happens next: the county attorney said he will remain through July 31 and assist with transition planning; the board may place a formal item on a future agenda to consider succession and any related employment matters.
