Mike Menendez, chairman of volunteers for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, said the tournament this year had about 1,950 volunteers — an all-time high — and that volunteers work across 22 committees that handle tasks from gallery management and spotting to player transportation and childcare.
“We have about 1,950 volunteers this year, which is our all-time high,” Menendez said in an interview with Beaufort County Television reporter Chloe G. He credited the event’s media and marketing team, naming Angela McSwain in the media center, with using social media and internet outreach to attract volunteers who formerly were recruited through in-person sessions in Sun City and elsewhere in Beaufort County.
Menendez described committee roles and flexibility in placement, saying volunteers typically choose from three initial assignment options and may shift roles year to year. He said volunteers include gallery management, spotters and player transportation, and noted a roughly 90% return rate among volunteers.
The interview was presented as part of BCTV’s coverage of the RBC Heritage; the bulletin directed viewers to full coverage on the BCTV YouTube channel.
