The Seattle City Council on April 21 adopted an honorary street‑naming resolution to designate South Jackson Street between 20th and 29th Avenue South as "Dr. R.L. Manaway, Sr. Way." Council President Joy Hollingsworth introduced the measure and the council voted 8–0 to adopt it.
Councilmember Saka, who introduced the item as chair of the Transportation, Waterfront and Seattle Center Committee, described Pastor Robert "R.L." Manaway’s long tenure in the Central District, saying he has led Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church since 1983 and has provided food access programs, transitional housing efforts and other community resources. "He has been the foundation that shaped so much of our community," Saka said during floor remarks.
Councilmembers praised Manaway’s decades of service and civic involvement. One councilmember noted Manaway’s leadership role with the North Pacific Baptist Convention and his participation on civic advisory committees, and several members thanked family members in the audience for attending.
The clerk called the roll for adoption; the clerk reported "eight in favor, none opposed," and the council formally adopted the resolution. Applause followed and the clerk was asked to affix the council president’s signature to the legislation.
The council concluded its business for the day and announced its next regular meeting for April 28 at 2:00 p.m.
