The Sunnybrook School District 171 board voted to table a decision selecting one of three transportation providers for the 2026–2027 school year after members questioned vendor capacity, GPS/tracking detail and the timing of the procurement.
Board members said they had received late information from another company and wanted more time to compare quotes and service features; one board member said the contract would not take effect until August, but concerns about vendor availability and documentation prompted a motion to delay a final selection. The motion to table was moved and seconded and carried following roll call.
During the public‑comment period, a representative of Strive for Greatness Transportation urged the board to consider that company, saying it now operates with an eight‑driver fleet, had grown from one student to "20 something," and had an "unblemished record, five no tardy, no accidents, no incidents." The commenter asked the board to review their materials and consider partnering with them.
Board members also discussed the district’s existing relationship with First Student (current contractor for specified student groups) and how different vendors price for additional students and technology features. One board member urged performing due diligence consistently across procurements and referenced prior concerns about following established board policy on selections.
Why it matters: The vendor selection affects daily transportation for students, contract costs, and service continuity; tabling the decision delays a final award but allows the board to seek further information and compare offerings.
What’s next: The item was tabled for further review; administration was asked to provide additional information and vendor comparisons before the board takes a final vote.
