The Sunnybrook School District 171 Board of Education voted to approve the district’s e‑learning plan renewal after a staff presentation explaining how remote instruction would be used to preserve instructional continuity on closure days.
A district staff member presenting the plan said the program is intended for reinforcement rather than introducing new concepts and described operational details: Chromebooks are provided for Pre‑K through grade 8, Google Classroom is the learning management system, the tech support line opens at 8:00 a.m., teachers check in at 8:30 a.m., students must log in by 9:00 a.m. and submit at least one assignment by 3:30 p.m. to verify attendance, and students without internet access have three calendar days after returning to submit work without penalty.
The plan is a scheduled renewal the district pursues every three years. The presenter said the district has been a model for neighboring systems—some districts have adapted Sunnybrook’s language— and that the plan remains largely unchanged aside from minor terminology updates.
Mr. Stewart moved to approve the plan and Ambrose seconded. The motion carried at the meeting; the board approved the plan and it will be forwarded to the Illinois State Board of Education via ISBE Form 4 for final state action.
Why it matters: approving the plan preserves an established e‑learning process for weather and emergency days, clarifies attendance and submission expectations for families, and commits district staff to the cadence described (tech support hours, teacher check‑ins and work‑submission timelines).
What’s next: the district will submit the approved plan to ISBE for state review and final acceptance. If the state declines, the district would need to revisit the plan and return to the board.
