GMP Consultants presented a structured recruitment plan for Stearns County’s next county administrator and the board approved the timeline on April 21.
Jeff Weldon of GMP told commissioners the search will begin with stakeholder meetings immediately, the position profile will be published May 6, and the application window will remain open through June 7. He described a screening process that includes virtual interviews for semi‑finalists, a work session with the board in late June to select finalists, and in‑person finalist interviews targeted for the week of July 13. Consultants also recommended optional public receptions and department‑head panels as part of final‑round evaluation.
"We ask candidates some supplemental questions and prepare packets for you with applications, resumes, essay answers and preliminary background checks," Weldon said, describing steps to assess fit for the county. Board members emphasized the value of facility tours, department‑head interviews and receptions to observe finalists informally. The board voted to approve the proposed schedule and agreed the process can be adjusted for scheduling needs.
What happens next: GMP will finalize the position profile and launch advertising May 6. County HR will coordinate logistics; the board will receive regular reports on application counts and screening progress.
