The Dawson County Board of Equalization voted May 1 to approve a series of tax list corrections and to authorize the county assessor and county attorney to negotiate several active Tax Equalization and Review Commission (TERC) cases.
The board approved the April 15, 2026 meeting minutes on a motion by Commissioner Kevin Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Rod Reynolds; the vote was Aye: Reynolds, Richeson, Swanson, Jacobson, with Commissioner Bill Stewart recorded as abstaining. The board then approved a batch of Tax List Corrections covering multiple parcels (listed in meeting records as #4775–#4788) on a motion by Commissioner Joe Richeson, seconded by Commissioner Bill Stewart; that motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Joe Richeson also moved — and Commissioner Kevin Swanson seconded — approval of Non‑Agricultural Credit Corrections for 2024 (listed as #4789–5681). That motion carried unanimously.
Assessor Nic VanCura asked the board to “authorize the assessor and county attorney to negotiate on several TERC cases.” The board approved that request on a motion by Commissioner Richeson, seconded by Commissioner Stewart; the vote was unanimous. The board later entered a short executive session at 9:40 a.m. at VanCura’s request to discuss TERC negotiation strategy and returned to open session at 9:45 a.m., with the minutes noting “no action taken” as a result of the executive session.
The approved tax list corrections and the authorization to negotiate are administrative actions that affect assessments and potential appeals at the Tax Equalization and Review Commission; specific outcomes of the TERC negotiations will depend on subsequent work by the assessor and county attorney. The meeting record lists the corrected parcel identifiers and owner names for each Tax List Correction in the official minutes.
The board adjourned at 9:46 a.m. and County Clerk Michaela Arndt certified that the meeting notice and agenda had been published and made available to the public.
