Board discussion and the agenda presented the changes as administrative restructuring intended to consolidate oversight of facilities and related services. Dr. Vitale and other board members said the responsibilities previously carried by the director of communications and operations were redistributed across departments and that the new director of facilities would focus specifically on buildings and grounds.
The vote followed an extended public‑comment period in which multiple current district employees and residents urged the board to postpone or rethink the changes. Grounds department employee Carl Beyerhauser said the planned elimination of the first‑level supervisor for grounds would remove institutional knowledge and risk day‑to‑day operations. “We come before you tonight to ask the agenda item be tabled or further discussed,” he said, describing a 28‑year employee the department wants retained.
Resident Veronica Murray said the community was concerned that several higher‑paid administrative positions had been created this year while operational supervisors were now being cut. “These are not just positions, these are people with families,” Murray said, urging transparency and fairness in the board’s staffing choices.
Superintendent Dr. Vitale and board members emphasized the changes are administrative and not driven by performance: “They are all amazingly dedicated professionals to our district and have given us years of service,” one board member said during discussion, adding the eliminated positions are Act 93 administrative roles whose duties will be redistributed.
The board approved the organizational chart, the elimination of the listed positions, and the position description for the new director of facilities by voice votes. Several public commenters asked for more dialogue before implementation; the board did not table the items.
