Cabell County Schools reported preliminary pre-K and kindergarten enrollment figures during the April 21 board meeting, with pre-K showing a notable increase compared with last year's enrollment-day counts.
"What we currently have in preK is 626 students. Kindergarten, we have 804," Miss Giles told the board, adding that some kindergarten numbers may be slightly lower than last year because pre-K counts were lower a year ago. She noted that enrollment-day figures are preliminary and that additional students typically register between now and the start of the school year.
The update included information on school-by-school transition activities for incoming kindergarten students and noted that some schools hold transition events after school while others conduct them during the school day. District staff said they expect additional registrations in the weeks ahead and will report final counts as the year begins.
Board members asked clarifying questions and thanked staff for the enrollment report; no policy action was taken during the presentation.
