Mayor Nick Fischer presented his recommended assignments of alderpersons to boards, committees and commissions and the council voted to confirm those appointments.
Alderman Brian Varsho moved to confirm the mayor’s appointments and a colleague seconded the motion. During the roll call, Mr. Giles and Ms. Spiros each recorded a “Yes” vote and Mr. Rigel said “Aye.” The chair declared the motion passed.
The list of appointments presented by the mayor included assignments to the Board of Public Works, Finance, Budget and Personnel, Judiciary and License Committee, Library Board, Plan Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Fairgrounds Commission, University Commission, Airport Committee, Bid Board and several others. The mayor said the recommended action was to confirm his appointments.
Separately, the mayor recommended Bonnie Andre to serve as chairperson of the Zoning Board of Appeals. A council member moved to approve that appointment, it was seconded, and the council voted in favor. The mayor announced the motion passed.
Procedural note: multiple citizen appointments (to the Airport Committee, Board of Review, Bid Board, Plan Commission, Committee on Aging, Communications Committee, Police and Fire Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Library Board, and Parks and Recreation Committee) were presented but the council took no action on those nominees at this meeting; the mayor said final action will be set for the April 28 meeting unless the rules are suspended to allow immediate action.
The council then proceeded to other agenda items.
