District reports large drop in seclusion/restraint incidents after ES3 grant work

The grant included six meetings (each equivalent to $1,000), providing $6,000 used for professional development, stipends and consultant work. "We did some root cause analysis," Jones said, and the team created a universal goal plus a crisis‑response focus for students whose needs are disability‑related and complex.
Jones reported the district recorded 71 incidents in the identified year and has recorded eight district‑wide to date. As part of the work, the district adopted a standardized debriefing form to ensure consistent documentation, reflection, and review for compliance with DPI reporting and nonviolent crisis intervention practices.
District leaders said the work was driven by data and centered on proactive behavior supports rather than reactive responses, and they recommended the materials be maintained for incoming staff and the next director.
