Board honors Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County for 30 years of Operation School Bell

A presenter for the Assistance League described Operation School Bell’s history: the chapter began service in 1995 with on‑campus retail‑style shopping and later moved to a full retail model in partnership with local retailers. The presenter said the program has served 42,972 students countywide over 30 years and that in the past 10 years the chapter provided clothing for 24,539 students. For the current school year the chapter clothed 2,119 students countywide; 494 of those students were from San Luis Coastal, at a reported cost to the chapter for clothing, supplies and books of $97,812 for the district’s students.
The presenter also described the thrift store fundraising model (a retail shop on Marsh Street) and the volunteer operation that supports the program’s retail and selection efforts.
Trustee Buckman moved the resolution, Trustee Roger seconded, and the board recorded a roll‑call vote of yes from each member present; the minutes record a 6‑0 vote with Mr. Clausen absent from earlier notation. The clerk read the resolution language acknowledging the Assistance League’s volunteer service, Operation School Bell, and the chapter’s partnership with the district.
