Murphysboro CUSD 186 board approves resignations, staff hires and a Tri-County dismissal resolution

The Murphysboro CUSD 186 board approved multiple personnel actions during its regular meeting, accepting resignations, approving new hires and approving a dismissal resolution tied to Tri‑County special education.

Resignations accepted included a letter from Amy Morris resigning as a paraprofessional at Murphysboro High School, effective Aug. 7, 2026, and a resignation from Holly Thompson effective immediately as freshman volleyball coach. The board approved both resignations by motion and voice vote.

Brooke Weddington, identified in her letter as the speech-language pathologist at Anna Mae Preschool and assigned to the district's middle and high schools, told the board she had been accepted into a master's program in educational administration at Southern Illinois University and asked permission to pursue completion of that program; the board approved that request.

The board also recognized Sylvia Kern as a Value Wise outstanding teacher for April 2026; the recognition included a certificate and a $500 grant to support classroom supplies.

Following closed-session personnel consideration, the board approved employment actions and a resolution to dismiss certain Tri‑County special education non-certified personnel. The board approved a list of certified hires and assignments (including Ali Stewart, Emma Francis, Keith Keiner and Leonard "Lenny" Tweedy), non‑certified hires and summer school staff, and authorized a Matt Todd summer stipend to be paid from a Title I school improvement grant.

The motions for the personnel slate and the dismissal resolution were moved and seconded and carried by voice votes. The meeting adjourned after the board completed its business.
