Library board confirms $300,000 for Carlson renovation; Coffus repurposing tabled

The Fargo Public Library Board heard an update on two capital projects and took action on one at its regular meeting.
The director reported that the FM Area Foundation board approved release of $300,000 held in principal to help fund the Carlson Library renovation, and that recent endowment distributions totaled just under $30,000. The board also acknowledged a $25,000 kickoff gift from the Friends of the Fargo Public Library to the library’s capital campaign. "Architects are scheduled to walk through for measurements," the director said, describing progress on planning for Carlson.
On a separate project, staff said the proposed Coffus space repurposing came in over its $120,000 budget. City administration indicated it can cover the overrun and could expand the scope of the project, and the director told the board not to take action on the earlier request. A motion to not approve the Coffus measure was made and seconded; members voted in favor and the item was tabled indefinitely.
Board members expressed appreciation for the Friends’ gift and encouraged continued coordination with city administrators as planning advances. No formal funding allocations or construction contracts were approved at the meeting; the Carlson renovation next steps include architect measurements and continued fundraising.
