Committee sets preliminary budget timeline, schedules Aug. 25 workshop

Finance Director Connie Hilman told the Personnel and Finance Committee on Aug. 4 that the 2026 preliminary levy must be set by Sept. 30 and that the preliminary levy determines tax statements mailed in November. She reviewed the timetable: the council president, PNF chair and city administrator will meet Aug. 14; the park board will present the budget at the next council meeting; and the committee scheduled a budget workshop for Monday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. to review proposed budget items prior to additional workshops and a planned preliminary levy adoption at the Sept. 15 regular council meeting.
A motion to schedule the Aug. 25 workshop was moved, seconded and carried on a voice vote. Committee members discussed timing and noted additional meetings in September could be scheduled as needed.
