The Stoughton Area School District Board of Education approved a set of routine business items and referred a contested policy provision to the governance workgroup for revision.
Meal fees and wages: Trustees voted to increase breakfast and lunch fees (K–12 and adult) by $0.10 for the 2026–27 school year and approved revised district facility usage fees effective July 1, 2026. The board also approved a $0.25 hourly pay increase for pool employees (cashier $15.75/hour; lifeguard $16.75; instructor $18.75; headguard $20.75). The pool-wage motion passed with one abstention recorded by Allison Sorg.
Policy debate and referral: The board considered updates to multiple policies (including PO 100, PO 01144.5, PO 1210, PO 1240, PO 5514). Discussion focused on a newly added paragraph to PO 1210 that would require board members to immediately refer communications within the administration’s purview to the district administrator or board president. Several trustees said the paragraph was overly broad and could hamper routine constituent conversations. "It really makes any constituent work that we as elected officials want to do challenging," said Mia Croyle, a trustee, urging more-limited language. The board amended the motion to send PO 1210 back to the governance workgroup for redrafting and approved the remaining policy updates by roll call vote.
Next steps: Staff committed to locating and sharing the district’s communication-flow chart and to returning revised language for PO 1210 to the governance workgroup. Other action items and follow-ups (insurance screening questions, Cologuard eligibility, and the insurance follow-up) were recorded for staff to report at future meetings. The board adjourned at the end of the session.
Votes at a glance: consent agenda — approved (no opposition recorded); meal and facility fees — approved; pool wages — approved (one abstention recorded by Allison Sorg); policies — amended motion passed to refer PO 1210 and approve the remainder (roll-call recorded).
