Brainerd City Council adopted Ordinance 1597 Wednesday evening after holding a public hearing in which no members of the public spoke on the measure.
Connie Hillman, from city staff, explained the ordinance updates sections related to cannabis, hemp and related businesses and amends Appendix A; the only substantive change since the first reading was a heading correction clarifying which sections are affected. Because the ordinance includes a table, staff recommended—and the council approved—adopting a resolution allowing summary publication to manage publication cost.
Council moved to dispense with the actual reading of the ordinance and adopted Ordinance 1597 by unanimous roll-call vote. The council then adopted the attached resolution approving the summary publication of the ordinance. No amendments were made at the final reading and no public comments were offered during the hearing.
Next steps: staff will finalize publication as authorized and implement ordinance changes according to the effective dates stated in the adopted legislation.
