EDA previews GIS‑based property‑listing portal to boost marketing of city and for‑sale parcels
Summary
EDA staff demoed a draft GIS listing portal for Brainerd that would host city and third‑party property listings, include a 180‑day automatic delist function, tie to parcel data via Esri, and could be subsidized by the EDA during an initial rollout; staff will refine technical hosting, cost, and outreach plans.

Jennifer presented a draft property‑listing portal June 5 that would combine EDA‑owned parcels and third‑party listings on an interactive GIS map intended to live on the Brainerd EDA website.
The portal prototype ties parcel location to listing detail pages with contact information, optional broker fields and image uploads. Listings would automatically expire after 180 days unless resubmitted; the portal includes a disclaimer that listing accuracy is the responsibility of the submitter. Jennifer said the city’s GIS/Esri costs are the primary hosting expense and staff are estimating credit usage and licensing to set a final fee structure.
Board members discussed potential low fees ($5–$10) to avoid barriers to listing and suggested the EDA consider subsidizing fees during the first year to encourage adoption. Members also raised SEO and outreach — connecting the portal to the EDA website and targeted outreach to local brokerages and property owners.
Jennifer said the portal would include validation checks (address/GPS) to prevent invalid listings and that staff or a contracted manager would be able to assist submitters and validate entries.
