Officials outline Sale Yorktown 250 celebration, flotilla and free concerts in June

Event organizers told the York County Board of Supervisors on April 21 that Sale Yorktown 250 will be a multi‑day, countywide celebration aimed at bringing residents and visitors to Yorktown’s waterfront and historic areas.
Heidi Spece, the county’s content marketing specialist, said the main festival will run June 12–14 with music beginning June 11. She listed partner organizations — including Colonial National Historical Park, the Jamestown‑Yorktown Foundation, Visit Williamsburg and VA250 — and said organizers expect a flotilla of tall ships, military vessels and a festival fleet of private boats on the York River. Many visiting ships will offer free deck tours, organizers said.
The schedule includes a 9 a.m. parade of sail, opening ceremonies on the Riverwalk Landing stage, and multiple free concerts: a Sounds of Summer night on Thursday, family‑friendly acts on Friday and Saturday and performances by visiting artists and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. Spece said Broadway performer Lexi Lawson is confirmed to appear on Saturday and that multimedia presentation "American Mosaic" will be part of the program.
Spece described a vendor village, hands‑on historic demonstrations on Main Street, educational activities in partnership with the national park and a modified trolley route to serve areas outside the regular trolley circuit. She also said the Colonial Parkway would temporarily reopen from Penman Road to Yorktown from June 10 through July 6 to ease event traffic; more information and schedules are available at visityorktown.org/saleyorktownfestival and the Visit Yorktown social channels.
Board members praised the planning team’s work and asked logistical questions about schedules and transport; Spece said the event team continues to refine operations and will publish details on the festival site.
