Wilmot UHS board members take oaths; Wayne Toronto named board president

Eight board members took oaths of office and the board completed its annual reorganization during its regular meeting. Wayne Toronto was elected board president following secret-ballot voting; Amy Rner and others participated in nominations. Board members also confirmed Melissa Samorski as clerk and Michael (Mike/Matz/Mats) as treasurer.

The swearing-in included recitations that each member ‘‘swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin, and will faithfully discharge the duties of said office to the best of my ability,’’ language read aloud by multiple newly sworn members.

The reorganization proceeded by secret ballot for the presidency after nominations were opened. Nominations were recorded on paper ballots collected by administrative staff; after counting the board chair announced that Wayne Toronto would continue presiding over the meeting. The vice president, clerk and treasurer positions were filled thereafter without extended debate.

Following the officer elections the board turned to routine items on its agenda, including approval of the consent agenda and public announcements about recent local flooding and scheduled school events. The meeting concluded its open session business before moving into a closed session to discuss personnel matters under Wisconsin statute.

The board did not publish a roll-by-roll vote tally for the officer elections or every routine motion during the meeting; approvals were announced by voice vote and motion with no detailed tallies recorded in the public transcript.
