Decatur County adopts multi-jurisdiction hazard-mitigation plan, resets five-year cycle

A county representative asked commissioners to adopt a multi-jurisdictional hazard-mitigation plan the county prepared and put out for public review. Staff said the plan met FEMA requirements and had not received public comments during the review period.
Commissioners adopted the plan (Resolution 2026-9) by voice vote. Staff explained that once FEMA and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security approve the county’s submission, the plan will be finalized and the five-year mitigation clock will reset, preserving Decatur County’s eligibility for mitigation grants under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
The presenter asked commissioners to approve the plan so the county and its towns can finalize and submit the document to state and federal partners. Commissioners praised the work and approved the resolution by motion. Staff said they will continue work with incorporated towns to adopt the plan at the local level.
