The Wilson Central School District Board on Tuesday recognized students from the district’s career and technical education programs who competed at the SkillsUSA regional conference at Alfred State College on March 3.
Board members congratulated participants from Orleans Career and Technical Center and Niagara Career and Technical Center for months of preparation and noted that local gold medalists advance to the New York State competition and potentially to the national SkillsUSA championships in June. The board highlighted Christopher Interable (third place, masonry), Carter Top (winner in diesel equipment technology) and Samantha Saraphine (cosmetology). The district encouraged community support for students who represented the schools at the regional event.
Why it matters: Career and technical education competitions like SkillsUSA offer students hands-on assessment, potential scholarships, tools and employer attention that can lead to workforce opportunities. The board's recognition formally acknowledges student achievement and the role of CTE programming in career preparation.
The recognition included informal remarks and light refreshments; winners were invited to be recognized in person when possible. No board action or vote accompanied the recognition.
