Commission approves Baker's Locksmith mural; owner will choose final approved color option

Troy Main Street presented a proposed mural for the blank wall between Agave and Baker's Locksmith, and the Planning Commission voted to approve the mural design with a limited-choice implementation plan that lets the business owner choose the final color among the approved options.

Amy Brinick, a representative of Troy Main Street, told the commission that “this mural has been in the making for quite some time” and that the design is intended to celebrate America 250 while highlighting dates and themes from Troy’s history. She said the preferred design was the top option in the packet, and that the group wanted the mural installed before the Strawberry Festival. Heather, the artist, was present for the presentation.

Commissioners discussed color and placement, with several members saying they liked different colorways (one commissioner said they preferred a blue accent; others favored the committee’s top choice). Because Baker's Locksmith occupies the wall, the commission and presenters agreed it would be appropriate to approve the design concept and allow the building owner to select which of the approved color options would be painted on the wall.

A motion to recommend approval of one of the two final designs (the top two preferred options, including a design with blue and a design with pink) was moved and seconded and carried on a roll-call vote.

The approval is recorded as a Planning Commission action to allow the mural under the historic-district application; final installation timing and the precise color choice will be determined in coordination with Baker's Locksmith and the artist.
