City Manager Hull told the Kennedale City Council on April 21 that Fellowship Academy requested a quote and asked the city to consider a 50/50 cost‑share for a full‑time School Resource Officer (SRO) at the campus. Hull said the request mirrors the city’s cost‑sharing arrangement with Kennedale ISD and that recent contract changes with the district produced savings that could be redirected to support the Fellowship Academy match.
Hull said the estimated total cost of a full‑time SRO — including salary, benefits, uniform, vehicle and equipment — is roughly $78,000–$79,000 per year. Council members asked whether the position would be full‑time (Hull said yes while school is in session, with officers reverting to patrol duties during breaks), why the school requested an SRO (the school sought a certified officer rather than contracted security), and whether the city had guidance to proceed.
Council signaled preliminary support and directed the city manager to move forward with drafting contract terms and cost estimates; any final agreement would return to council for formal approval.
