Park board approves baseball agreement, hydroseeding funds and schedules grand openings and cleanup

At its meeting, the Brainerd Park Board approved several operational items: an amended agreement allowing the Brainer Baxter Baseball Association (BBBA) access to city equipment and fields (with an administrative name update), a transfer of funds to cover a hydroseeding invoice for Buffalo Hills, scheduling a Lump Park grand‑opening for Sunday, July 13, and approving a June 21 cleanup at Lump Park beach using National Guard volunteers.

Staff noted the BBBA language was inadvertently missing in the 2025 operating document; the board approved the corrected agreement after instructing staff to update the city administrator name in the contract. On hydroseeding, staff said a $3,500 invoice leaves about $2,485 to be covered from the parks 'weed and seed' line; the board approved the transfer and asked staff to provide an update on the overall weed‑and‑feed program at the next meeting.

Board members discussed event timing and grass establishment before approving Lump Park’s grand‑opening date for July 13 to allow grass to settle and to align with other community events. For the June 21 cleanup, staff described a plan to concentrate National Guard volunteers on the beach cleanup, disc‑golf pruning and campground debris removal; the board asked staff to prepare a task list and approved the event.
