Board hears progress on Blossom Rock well and Superstition plant expansion

At the April 21 meeting Director Mike Loggins updated the board on recent infrastructure work.
He reported that well number 10 at Blossom Rock was completed after a pilot borehole and that Arizona sampling showed good water quality. The well's production was estimated at about 2,500 gallons per minute (approximately 3 million gallons per day), and test pumping was scheduled for the following week to verify recovery rates. Loggins said the well project remains on schedule to finish before the end of the fiscal year.
Loggins also briefed the board on the Superstition Area Water Plant expansion. The plant originally served about 2 mgd and has been expanded in stages; construction to reach a 10 mgd capacity began Jan. 1 and the district currently projects a potential finish date of July 1, 2028. The director said the plant already has been ramped to meet peak demand days and that the district can bring wells online when needed to supplement production.
On emergency response equipment, Loggins said the district is procuring portable water trailers but that supplier availability is limited; he said procurement may roll into next year with a goal of having one by fall and another available for the next Dutchman event in spring.
The board thanked staff for the work; no formal actions were taken on these items.
