The Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency on April 21 approved a pilot Residential Improvement Grant program that will offer up to $10,000 per owner‑occupied single‑family property to help homeowners address code‑related and voluntary repairs.
Bonnie Nicklin, grants and project manager, told the joint CRA/CITY panel that the board had settled on $10,000 per property, a $100 application fee and a $100,000 pilot allocation. Staff proposed reserving $50,000 for voluntary applicants and $50,000 for properties subject to code enforcement, with grant payments made directly to contractors to encourage participation.
The program is limited to owner‑occupied, single‑family detached homes; properties must be free of liens or have liens that the grant can remedy, and active code cases would need to be correctable by grant work. Nicklin said staff expects to return program documents in May and launch the pilot shortly thereafter.
Board members asked how long a homeowner must remain in the property after receiving funds; staff said a two‑year occupancy requirement had been discussed previously and that repayment would be required if the owner sold earlier. The board adopted the program by voice vote and directed staff to implement administrative approval for applications that meet eligibility criteria.
The board approved the motion unanimously.
