Clark County Board honors dozens of students and coaches at April 21 recognition meeting

The Clark County Board of Education convened a special recognition meeting April 21 to honor students, coaches and staff for district, regional and state achievements across music, athletics and career-technical programs.
The program began with a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance before the board adopted the meeting agenda and approved minutes by 4–0 votes, procedural items the chair announced at the outset. The bulk of the evening featured presentations from school staff and coaches who called students forward for photo opportunities and acknowledgments.
"We received the highest ranking possible from all four judges," said Mr. Burner, director of the Baker Intermediate School Chorus, summarizing the chorus's performance at the Kentucky Music Educators Association assessment and listing more than a dozen chorus members recognized by the district. He also identified four Baker students selected for the Kentucky Children's Chorus; one member was unable to attend.
Presenters recognized a long list of athletic and extracurricular accomplishments. Taylor Howard, RDC athletic director, presented a recognition for Coach Rob Hill as Area 6 Coach of the Year in track and cross country. Coaches and staff noted district teams that advanced to state and regional competitions across cross country, basketball, archery, swimming and other sports, and they read team rosters and postseason honors for many student athletes.
Academic and career-technical achievements were also highlighted. Stephen Burke, RDC academic team coach, reported students advancing in Governor’s Cup competitions; James Willoughby and Aaron Keaton recognized welding students who earned Department of Transportation welding certifications and SkillsUSA placings. FBLA, Beta Club, STLP and other student organizations were acknowledged for regional and state qualifications.
The meeting closed the recognitions portion and took a brief recess before shifting to school leadership spotlights and district program updates.
The board moved on without public comments and returned to regular business items; the chair noted the time as about 7:27 p.m.
